Step by step tutorial on How to download and install Microsoft Power Bi Desktop for free including how to select version as per your system.

How to download Microsoft Power Bi Desktop ?
To download Microsoft Power BI Desktop, you can follow these steps:
First Method (Very Easy Method) to open download link :
- Open your any browser eg. Google Chrome.
- Go to the direct official link of Power BI Desktop download – https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=58494
OR
Second Method :
- Open your Chrome browser eg. Google Chrome and search Power Bi
- Click first option i.e. Microsoft Power Bi : Data Visualization which is Microsoft official website i.e. https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-au/
- Then click on Products in top menu. It will show a drop down list.
- Select Power Bi Desktop from drop down list. New window will open.
2. Then click on See Download or language options. It will redirect to the direct link for download Microsoft Power Bi Desktop i.e. https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=58494
After First & Second step (which ever method you select) following steps are same.
3. Scroll down and select language. It’s default selected English.
You can select which ever language you want.
4. Then click on the “Download” button
5. On the download page, you may see two options:
- One for the 64-bit version and
- another for the 32-bit version
6. Choose the download you want. Click on the download button for your preferred version. Eg. PBIDesktopSetup_x64.exe. Then Blue tick will appear in the box.
7. Click on next button.
The download will begin automatically in your system.
9. Once the download is completed, locate the downloaded file, and run the installer.
How to Choose Preferred Version of Microsoft Power Bi Desktop to download ?
Choose the appropriate version based on your computer’s operating system. Note : If you’re unsure, you can check your system information in the Control Panel or System Preferences. Step by Step process as follows :
First Method :-
- Click on Start button
- Search System information.
- Click on System Information. New window will open.
4. There you can check the System Type: Eg. 64-bit version / 32-bit version. For Example : In my system its 64-bit Operating System, x64-based Processor i.e. 64-bit version. Hence, I will download PBIDesktopSetup_x64.exe
Second Method :-
1. Click on Start Button
2. Search Control Panel
3. Click on Control Panel. New window will get open.
4. Click on System & Security. New window will get open.
5. Click on System. New window will get open.
6. There you can check the System Type: Eg. 64-bit version / 32-bit version.
For Example : In my system its 64-bit Operating System, x64-based Processor i.e. 64-bit version. Hence, I will download PBIDesktopSetup_x64.exe
How To Install Microsoft Power BI Desktop ?
To Install Microsoft Power BI Desktop, you can follow these steps:
- Once the download is completed, locate the downloaded file, and run the installer OR Go to your downloads folder in system and run the installer. New small window will pop up.
2. Select the Language as per your requirement
3. Click on Next
4. Then It will ask for permission. Click on Yes.
5. Once you click on Yes, Power Bi Desktop setup wizard small window will open. Then click on Next. It will start launch process.
6. Accept the license Agreement. Right tick will appear in the check box.
7. Then click on Next. New small window will open.
8. Verify the installation path. If you want to change the path you can change it from change option.
9. Click on Next. New small window will open.
8. Click on Install to initiate the installation process. New small widow will open.
Auto selected option will be there for create a desktop shortcut. You can deselect / untick the option as per your requirement.
It will start the installation process. Once the installation process completed new small window will open,.
9. Click on Finish.
Auto selected option will be there for Launch Microsoft Power Bi Desktop. You can deselect / untick the option as per your requirement.
If the Launch Microsoft Power Bi Desktop option is selected then the application will launch in few seconds.
You can click on close button and start working.

Please note that Power BI Desktop is available for Windows operating system. If you’re using a different operating system, such as macOS, you can consider using Power BI service, which is the cloud-based version of Power BI accessible through a web browser. Additionally, it’s worth mentioning that Power BI Pro requires a paid subscription, but there is also a free version called Power BI Desktop that offers limited functionality.
